If you are interested in finding out more about Lilly, the owner's contact information is located at the bottom of her description.*** Lilly is an eight month old medium mixed breed. She is approximately forty pounds. She's wonderfully sweet, absolutely loves people (runs right up to everyone wagging her tail...and yes, can be quite enthusiastic and jump on people if she's feeling energetic!). She gets along normally with our two other dogs - a 4 year old male, fixed border collie and a 13 year old female border collie. With both dogs, Lilly is submissive - befitting of her age - but also playful. She and the 4 year old chase each other and wrestle in the back yard. She seems very well socialized and not nervous at all around people and other dogs.
Lilly was a stray left at a relative's home in Ohio. Their household was too hectic to take on another animal, and since the shelters are full and also kill shelters, we decided to take her up to Vermont and foster her here until she finds the perfect home match. We were also convinced of her adopt-ability after meeting her at Thanksgiving and seeing how fun, loving, and playful she is. She was at our relative's place for around two months - no one claimed her despite reporting her to all the proper authorities.
When she was in Ohio, she spent time with children from 4 to 12 and was just as comfortable and fun loving around them as adults.
We are in the process of housebreaking her now (she was mostly outside in Ohio). She is crate trained (loves her crate) and well along in the training. She has been crated at night and loose for periods of time in the house under supervision during the day. So far, no accidents but we are being very proactive. We have not seen her go to the door to ask to be let out yet.
We did see her rip apart a shopping bag left outside...so we don't trust her without supervision at this point!
We have a 4 foot high woven wire fence out back. Lilly - when she sees us go through the backyard gate out to the barns, has managed to squeeze through an opening in the gate that we didn't know existed. Her target, once out back, was a chicken. Fortunately we got to her in time, but we do not recommend placing her with poultry.
Lilly has done fine with our horses and sheep. She actually seems to like the horses (ignores the sheep) - they've touched noses and she wags her tail and wants to play with them.
All in all, Lilly is a delightful dog -- seems to have no bad habits from past experiences - just a penchant for poultry that might have started here. She's still a puppy and has puppy energy, but also can quiet down and sleep all night in her crate. She rides amazingly well in a car - sits in the back seat and looks out the window.
Lilly has her rabies and distemper shots completed. She is not spayed yet (the vet said she will be ready by late December) and we will only place her in a home where she will be spayed.
We're looking for an active person or family to offer her a loving home with plenty of exercise opportunities. She's going to want to be with you as much as possible (go on errands, trips, be in the house when you're in the house, go hiking, etc.). She won't do well being left outside on her own. She's very social and loves being with others!
