Safira is our 4 year old Boxer/Bull Terrier mix that was surrendered to our Humane Society by her owners on 3/13/14. Unfortunately for her they moved into an apartment that did not allow dogs, so they had contacted us for help finding her a new home. Safira is very outgoing and playful, and she has been around teenagers and adults throughout her life. She has a very friendly and happy personality, and is very smart and is learning basic training. She loves car rides, playing fetch and being able to hang out with our staff and volunteers everyday. Safira is one of our most outgoing dogs, and enjoys going on day time adventures with our volunteers around Saranac Lake and Lake Placid. She had been around dogs before in her previous home, but she is very assertive/dominant and has done better with submissive/playful type male dogs. She is crate-trained and house broken and she is very smart, and knows basic commands (sit, lay down, sit pretty and shake). Safira is an active and happy dog, and she really likes going out for walks/hikes and runs through our Jog-A-Dog program where volunteers sign up to take our shelter dogs out for some exercise. Safira was turned in with an eye issue and ear infections. We have been cleaning her ears regularly and treating them which has helped drastically. Her left eye is "cloudy", and we have brought her to a Vet to have it checked out. Her former owners believed she had a cataract, but she has a condition called Corneal Degeneration. She has partial sight out of the damaged eye, and full sight out of her right eye. At this time, surgery is not necessary according to the Veterinarian we visited. She is up to date on her vaccinations, spayed and tested negative for Heartworm and Lyme Disease. She is a happy, playful and fun-loving dog that deserves a great new life with someone looking for a new hiking/walking buddy that wants to curl up and cuddle at night.
